Threading
Threading is a form of temporary hair removal, an ancient manual technique similar to plucking and is a fast and effective way to remove unwanted hair.
It is suitable for the removal of unwanted hair from:
- Eyebrows
- Chin
- Upper lip
- Face
- Neck
- Fingers and toes
Threading involves the use of a loop of twisted cotton thread which is passed across the skin’s surface, trapping the hairs and removing them from their follicles. Threading has been used for many centuries. It is believed that it was first used in Arabia, Turkey and India.
The benefit of threading is that it removes many hairs at once, so it is a fast method of removing unwanted hair. There is minimal pain although some people do find it a little irritating.
The results are neat with approximate re-growth between 2-4 weeks.
Very short hair can be removed and there is little irritation to the area, making it possible to go over the area more than once.
Unlike Waxing, there is no heat involved in the process and does not adhere to the skin which minimises skin sensitivity.
Hairs can be removed individually or in ‘lines’ to create a perfect shape when threading eyebrows. Hair can be removed from both above and below the eyebrows, giving them a well-groomed appearance.
If you are looking for a more permanent method of hair removal please see our Electrolysis page and IPL Hair Removal Page.
For other options for temporary hair removal for larger areas see our Waxing page.
Short hairs can be removed, but they need to be long enough to be removed by the thread.
Avoid heavy use of moisturisers prior to treatment
Treat the area with respect following treatment. The hair follicles remain ‘open’ after treatment so avoid sun exposure, heat treatments and makeup.
We recommend Sterex aloe gel if the area needs soothing or calming following threading.
