Skin Needling

Skin needling, also known as micro needling or derma rolling At Sensoria we use conventional needling devices and Rejuvapen for this natural, safe and effective skin rejuvenation treatment for a wide range of skin concerns.

It is a controlled form of mechanical skin stimulation which induces collagen and elastin production in your skin  the substances responsible for the supporting framework of the skin.

What can skin needling be used for?

It is used to reduce skin wrinkling, improving open pores, stretch marks, red veins, lessening skin discoloration, improving skin texture on the decollete, improving acne and chicken pox scarring. It creates a smoother, brighter, healthier, younger-looking skin.

What is the difference between conventional skin needling and Rejuvapen?

Conventional needling uses a roller device and can cover large areas of skin quickly. It is ideal for areas such as challenges with the sides of the face, neck and upper chest. Rejuvapen has a smaller head and can get very close to the lip line and around the eyes.

How does skin needling work and what does it involve?

The procedure consists of thousands of tiny micro needles passing over the skin and making miniscule pin pricks to encourage the skin to regenerate. As a result, the skin is visibly improved, becoming more even and fresher looking. The micro-holes that are made in the skin also help the active products applied penetrate more deeply into the skin. Anaesthetic cream is applied prior to the treatment to ensure that it is as comfortable as possible.

How many skin needling Treatments will I need?

A course of 3-5 Treatments are recommended with a six week interval between each visit. This is because it takes 6 weeks for the newly formed collagen to mature to give you the desired results. For some conditions more Treatments may be necessary for optimum results.

Is skin needling safe?

It’s a very safe treatment. The results are comparable to laser or peels but as it is a non-ablative treatment there is very little downtime (up to 48 hours only) and no risk of hyperpigmentation (dark marks) or hypopigmentation (white marks) forming. We use a new, sterile dermaroller for every treatment. This avoids any risk of cross-contamination. Even if you have your own roller for treatment it is impossible to clean and sterilise the roller to prevent bacterial infection from occurring. Also, the needles can be fragile and there have been reported cases of needles imbedding in the skin with multi-use needles so for your safety and hygiene we use a new roller every treatment. We use Medik8 rollers which are the only ones which are CE approved.

A full consultation will take place before your treatment, however do let us know in advance if you have any medical conditions which may make you unsuitable for the treatment. Health conditions which affect your auto-immune system or healing response can be an issue, as can medications that thin your blood such as warfarin or aspirin.

Where possible attend your appointment without make up.

Your skin will look aggravated after treatment so please do not schedule this service prior to any special events.

It can take around 24-72 hours for your skin to look normal again.

We recommend purchasing Barrier Repair or to have vaseline available at home to make skin feel comfortable following treatment.
