Are you squeaky clean?

More and more clients are coming to us for skin care treatments and facials at Sensoria in Tarporley and in Ellesmere Port looking for solutions to getting cleaner, brighter and fresher skin.

Over my many years as a Skin Therapist I have noticed that skins are becoming duller and more lifeless with the need to use more and more makeup to highlight and enhance in order to create the perfect complexion.

Why is this? Well, there is more particulate pollution in the air now than ever before which clogs the skin and causes it to age more quickly. The use of long-wear makeup is also causing a problem in particular with breakouts and blocked pores and a general ‘dulling’ of the skin. On one level a good layer of makeup is an additional protection against UV damage from light and sunlight, but on another level it is difficult for the skin to breathe and to thoroughly cleanse at the end of the day.

If you want cleaner, healthier skin where do you start with your skin care routine? The best place to start is in the salon. Ask your skin care specialist to recommend a cleansing routine that is perfect for your skin and your needs.

We always recommend a double cleanse routine. The first cleanse is to remove makeup or oily based debris on the skin. You will be recommended Dermalogica’s PreCleanse if your skin is normal/oily/blemished and Dermalogica’s PreCleanse Balm if your skin is dry/sensitive/ ageing as it is a more soothing and hydrating formula. We love the PreCleanse products as they effectively but gently remove even the most stubborn of long-wear makeup so this stage of your cleansing routine is particularly important in the evening especially if you wear makeup.

Following your PreCleanse you will use your prescribed cleanser which is recommended for your particular skin type. As all Dermalogica’s prescribed cleaners are water based they are easily removed from the skin with a damp sponge cloth. There is no need for wiping over with a toner on cotton wool as the skin will be perfectly clean following this double cleansing sequence and you are ready to continue with the rest of your skin care products starting with a hydrating spray of toner.

In the treatment room, when you have your professional Dermalogica ProSkin 60 or ProSkin 30 skin treatment you will also receive a double cleanse, but we also have access to special Professional Only products and equipment which will allow a deeper and more thorough clean of your skin. If you are prone to blocked pores this will include products to soften and remove impacted blackheads (comedones) to leave your skin fresher and brighter.

The deep cleansing section of your facial may also include steam and electrical deep cleaning depending on your skin condition, your health and the aim of your treatment on the day.

A word of caution, some people ‘over-clean’ or aggressively clean their skin. This is counter-effective in your bid to achieve better skin. A cleansing routine should be thorough, quick and also gentle to give your skin the best chance to function properly.
