Skin Tag Removal in Cheshire

Most of our clients will agree  – skin tags are annoying!

What are skin tags? They are small, benign ‘droplets’ of skin that accumulate in areas such as the neck, underarms, groin etc. In fact anywhere where there is friction.

The friction can be from jewellery and clothing such as around the neck where necklaces are worn or from wearing a stiff collar. It can also be friction from skin rubbing against skin such as under the arms and the groin area, we even remove them from the eyelids where they have formed from blinking!

A very large percentage of the general population suffer from skin tags and they are incredibly easy to remove; in fact we remove hundreds if not thousands of skin tags every year in Tarporley and this service is now available in Ellesmere Port.

One of the original methods of skin tag removal was to tie cotton around the neck of the tag. This was an effective, if aesthetically unpleasing solution as you have to be prepared to walk around for days on end with bits of cotton tied onto your skin. The way it works is that the tightly tied cotton is cutting off the blood supply to the tag so it is deprived of oxygen and nutrients and then it just dies off. Not only is it aesthetically unpleasing, you have to be pretty dexterous in order to tie a piece of cotton around a small piece of skin (or have a very dexterous friend or family member to assist).

At Sensoria we have two quick and efficient methods of removal. The first is removal with short Wave Diathermy, (sometimes called Advanced Electrolysis) this removes the tag with heat coagulation. The short wave diathermy current is applied to the neck of the skin tag with the tip of a small probe to seal off the blood supply in much the same way as with tying cotton round it.

Is it painful? Well, you can feel it, so if you are uncomfortable with a hot, prickling sensation pop into the chemist and invest in a small tube of topical aesthetic cream such as Emla cream and apply it before attending for treatment. If you are coming in for other treatments we can apply some anaesthetic cream for you.

The other method is with CryoPen. Our CryoPen emits a fine jet of nitrous oxide under high pressure, which destroys the tissue by freezing the inter-cellular fluid, forming ice shards and crystals which rupture the membrane, thereby destroying the cell. That means there should be no damage to any healthy tissue.

Both methods are incredibly accurate and practical methods of skin tag removal.

How many tags can be removed in one session? Well, it depends on the size of the tag and the number of areas to be treated. Larger tags take longer to treat and each area of treatment has to be prepared before, so if you have two on your neck, one in your groin and two under your arms then it will take longer than five on your neck! We will tell you at your consultation how many tags we can remove in the time.

Look forward to a smoother- skin future!
