IPL Skin Rejuvenation ‘Photo Facial’

Written by Angela, 25th October 2017

IPL is one of the best treatments for skin rejuvenation. Pulses of light create heat in the tissue to stimulate collagen production giving a fresher, smoother skin texture; so it is also known as a ’photo facial’.

It also removes unsightly red veins which can give an aged look to your skin. The light heats up the haemoglobin in the blood inside the blood capillaries and the small red capillaries start to disappear. Immediately after the treatment your skin will look redder, but as the skin cools down you will notice a calmer and less red appearance to your skin.

The other advantage of IPL as a skin rejuvenation treatment is that it reduces age spots, giving a clearer and more even tone to your skin. Initially the age spots will darken and then gradually slough off like coffee grounds leaving a more even, younger-looking skin colour.

We are often asked ‘how does IPL feel?’ Well, it feels like a hot rubber band snapping against the skin. You get a chance to experience this during the patch test to make sure that you feel comfortable with the sensation. Most people find the treatment comfortable. A patch test at least one week before the treatment is essential to make sure the treatment will be safe and effective for you.

IPL combines very well with botox (wrinkle softening injections) as botulinum toxin targets the underlying muscles to combat dynamic lines and wrinkles and IPL refreshes and rejuvenates the overlying skin.

How many treatments of IPL are required? This depends on quite a large number of factors including your age, skin condition, lifestyle factors, treatment tolerance and expectations. At Sensoria we also recommend having an initial treatment and then progress to a course of treatment.

We are the only clinic in the Tarporley area to have the Lynton Luminette equipment for IPL skin rejuvenation and we get good results from our treatments. We combine the IPL with exfoliation, hydrating & rejuvenating masks as well as massage to give an enjoyable and highly effective skin treatment.

Is IPL suitable for everyone? It is not suitable for everyone. There is an in-depth consultation which we carry out prior to the patch test to ensure that you are suitable for treatment. There are certain medical conditions, medications and skin colourations that contra-indicate IPL treatment. Prior to treatment you must not have sunbathed or used a sunbed for four weeks and have avoided fake tan for two weeks. If you have an ‘outdoor’ lifestyle then you will need to apply and reapply sun lotion to avoid sun exposure prior to treatment.

Come and see if we offer the best photo facial in Cheshire! and don’t forget that IPL skin rejuvenation is also very popular for rejuvenating the skin on the backs of hands.
